First up is Scrappers, which will screen next Tuesday, 4/2, at 4:30pm in room 704 at RU in Schaumburg. Scrappers is a cinema verité-style documentary from 2010 that follows the ups and downs of two Chicago scrap-men, Oscar and Otis, as they scrape a living from the streets and alleyways of the city by collecting metal and selling it to recyclers. An honest and revealing look at how street-level recyclers try to support their families in an economically volatile and physically dangerous trade.

Check out the film’s website and this review by Roger Ebert. RSVP to SUST prof. Mike Bryson (mbryson@roosevelt.edu) if you plan to attend — hope to see you there!
