Tour of Waste Site in Lake Calumet Region on Nov 2

Have you ever wondered where your garbage goes? Or think about environmental injustice in South Chicago? Join Roosevelt University students on Friday, November 2nd, from 10am-2pm, for an exciting tour of waste-related sites in the Lake Calumet region.

A closed landfill near Lake Calumet

The tour will start and end downtown, traveling by bus to visit various active and remediated landfills and brownfield sites, as well as looking at new improvements to waste management practices like a composting facility and methane capture. Staff from the Southeast Environmental Task Force will act as our guides, and will discuss their work to fight landfill expansion and create environmental justice in this area.

The tour cost is $25/person and space is limited. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Suhail Barot, Instructor of Sustainability Studies at RU, at sbarot@roosevelt.edu or 312-281-3283 as soon as possible.
