Roosevelt University to Host Green Economy Action Roadshow on November 4th and 5th

Next Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th, the Green Economy Action Roadshow rolls into Roosevelt University’s Schaumburg Campus. As the Village of Schaumburg notes on its website announcement of this exciting environmental public event:

This two-day conference and expo offers businesses and citizens an opportunity to learn more about the green economy in their community including topics on energy efficiency, alternative energy and transportation, residential and commercial green building technologies, green cleaning and more through workshops and exhibit booths.

Friday November 4 – Business Conference

The business conference kicks off with Don Bartell, Director of Sustainability Programs for Motorola Solutions, who will speak from 9:15 – 10am about his experience helping Motorola drive environmental improvements across the entire organization and through the supply chain and offer insights about how any company can get started on a more sustainable path regardless of their size or industry.

Karrie Gibson, founder and CEO of Vintage Tech, an innovative e-waste recycler, will be participating on a panel about greening the supply chain from 11:30am – 12:15pm.  Under the new Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, disposal of certain e-waste in landfills and incinerators will be prohibited starting 2012 and beyond.

There will also be sessions on energy efficiency in the built environment and funding and financing sustainability initiatives.

Saturday, November 5 — Consumer Conference

The consumer conference starts at 10am with Wayne Gerdes, the “Father of Hypermiling,” who will provide tips and techniques for achieving better fuel economy regardless of the vehicle. Wayne is also a lead trainer for Drive $mart America and a consultant for automobile manufacturers and the transportation industry who is an authority on the latest in fuel-efficient automobile technology and vehicles. Kelly Vlahakis- Hanks, Vice President of Earth Friendly Products, will lead a session on green cleaning. Vintage Tech will be providing free e-waste recycling from 10am – 4pm on Saturday where residents can drop off their unwanted TVs, computers, and other electronics. There will also be sessions on wind and solar energy, home weatherization, and eco-friendly remodeling.

Registration fee for the Friday Business Conference and Expo is $39 online, $59 at the door. There is free entry on Friday for Roosevelt students with pre-registration and student ID. The Saturday consumer event is free but registration is requested.

The event is hosted by the Delta Institute and Mindful Metropolis along with the Village of Schaumburg and Roosevelt University.
