Chicago Flatwater Classic Canoe and Kayak Race Sunday Morning

This Sunday starting at 9am, the Friends of the Chicago River are holding the Chicago Flatwater Classic.  From the Friends:

hundreds of paddlers and spectators – from first-time paddlers to avid racers, and families to corporate teams –  all Flatwater Classic participants power down the river in standard canoes and kayaks, as well as 26-foot Voyageur replica boats in the Chicago River’s only canoe and kayak race!

You don’t have to compete to participate in this unique event; all are welcome! We provide the know how and staff to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day seeing Chicago like you never have before. Paddlers begin the 7.25 mile course at Clark Park (3400 N. Rockwell) and paddle south to finish at Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown.

Along the way participants enjoy all of the visual splendor the Chicago River has to offer, including the wooded riverbanks of the north side neighborhoods, industrial corridor surrounding Goose Island, and awe-inspiring vistas of downtown as seen by the river.
